So today I read this Yahoo news story that says… Unhappy People Watch Lots More TV
It reads…
“Unhappy people glue themselves to the television 30 percent more than happy people.
The finding, announced on Thursday, comes from a survey of nearly 30,000 American adults conducted between 1975 and 2006 as part of the General Social Survey.”
Hmmm, I wonder why?
Grey’s Anatomy = constantly surrounded by hospital scenes
Prison Break = Who feels good about prison?
Ghost Whisperer = That just sounds scary!
Gossip Girl = Cuz we all know gossip is usually cheery and happy stuff
CSI = More crime, death, and mystery
Desperate Housewives = I don’t even know what to say.
Lost = People in a plane crash, trapped, and going out of their minds
ER = More blood and guts and negative shit
Criminal Minds = I’m done being a criminal and don’t want to be reminded of it.
Maybe the truth isn’t that unhappy people watch lots more tv, but rather…
“Watching lots of TV makes people unhappy”.
Think about it.

I have to say I agree with you.
I purposely avoid cop/crime and hospital related shows – except for House & Burn Notice as they take an approach focusing on the characters (and they’re funny).
Also, Lost is still one of my favorite shows – there is definitely some negativity in it, but there’s also lots of hope and self discovery which what I reckon makes it so interesting.
I agree that Lost is addicting as a mofo.
I just try to insulate myself as best as I can when watching programs like that.
However, I can’t do any hospital shows at all. Scares the bejesus out of me.
Hey Jason,
Don’t leave out Judge Judy where the entire theme is poor communication.
Or, there’s another hot one, haha, it’s brand new called Doctors or something… where it’s an hour of talking about diseases and symptoms, that you “no doubt have.”
Hey Mo, I don’t watch TV. I spend my time working, writing for my blogs and spending time with friends and family.
I threw out my TV last year, and yes I don’t have a cell phone either.
What ever will I do?
Good Life to all,
Mark
Hi Jason,
Great article thanks for finding it! I have only watched about 5 hours of TV in the last 13 years. The News is mostly propaganda, the programming is usually negative and the advertising feeds an insatiable desire for more “stuff”. I miss the sports and programs on Discovery Channel but I can’t trust myself to be hooked up to cable lol. I read , work online, talk with friends on the phone or I get outside and do things.
