The Dilema of The Dog Dropping A Duece!

One of my biggest concerns about moving to San Diego was my dog Webber. Previously we had lived in the woods (Mt. Hood Oregon) and he could roam wherever he pleased. Seldom had he ever been on a leash, unless we went into Portland, or another town.

I was really concerned about Webber living in the city and it was tough to find a house that had a adaquete yard for him. Just the other day while I ran to the liquor store, Webber somehow weaseled himself through the gate and chased after me. After departing the liqour store with 6 pack in hand, I saw Webber running up and down a busy street sidewalk frantically looking for me. ARGGGGGG. Lesson learned. I need a more secure lock on the gate.

One of the other problems having a dog in the city creates is all the crap you have to pick up. Yes I’m talking about literal crap. I’ve only seen my dog take a shit maybe a few times in my life. Living in the woods, he does his business in private and I never see it. I’ve never once stepped in a pile of his dung. Now that’s a great dog.

However, after moving to San Diego things have changed. Webber has to be on a leash in 99% of the places around. And when he “Drops a Duece”, I have to be equipped with a paper bag to pick it up. Damn this sucks.

Yesterday, Alison, Webber, and I went to Balboa Park to check out 1 of the 3 “Off leash” dog parks they have. I got a map here of all the off leash parks and it appears that excercising Webber is going to take a bit of my time. Maybe it’s a good thing that will get me away from the computer. It’s just a bit weird for me to have to worry about this kind of stuff.

I really want to move to the beach but it’s next to impossible to find a cost effecient house with a large yard that will allow dogs close to the beach. The place I have now is suffucient, but it’s definitely not the beach. It took me 18 minutes to drive to Frank’s place to go surfing the other day. ARRRGGGGG. 18 minutes seems like an eternity when you are used to living on the oceanfront. In due time, I’ll be moving on up to the West Side. Until then, I’ll continue to take Webber to the Dog Parks and be sure to pick up his doo-doo that he leaves behind.

  1. Jason, why are you picking up the poo in paper bags?
You and Frank aren’t going over to Dr. Mike’s and
    lighting them… Are You??

  2. Sounds like you have done the reverse lifestyle having to cope with traffic, we left the city to enjoy
to get away from the traffic, although being by the sea is like living in paradise. Enjoy
Looking forward to connecting with you again on the 30 day challenge

  3. Polly,

I think comedy is what really won me the crown of 2005 Underachiever of the Year. Couldn’t imagine doing this
stuff if I wasn’t having a blast doing so.

    Scott,

    Say What?

No, we just send Mike subscriptions of sexy dude magazines.

    Suzie,

Definitely a different life. Sure glad I have a place in the
mountains of Oregon to retreat to when in need of a bit peace and serenity.

Although the ocean is a great substitution. 🙂

  4. Yeah man, cities are a shite place for dogs. My friend moved into the city only to have his dog lick antifreeze, and die. Not a thing you need to see.
