For the last few years I’ve been a big and vocal proponent of personally responding to all of my email inquiries. Sometimes a few do fall through the cracks, and occasionally I just space a few here and there, but for the most part I like to think I’m really good at returning emails.
Having an assistant answer my personal emails just doesn’t sit right with me. Never has. I don’t think it ever will either.
However, when it comes to strictly business emails I’d rather not see those most of the time. Especially support tickets and refund requests. Those kind of emails are a buzz kill for me and I’d rather focus on forward moving things and let an assistant handle those hassles for me. Since I haven’t had my business up and running this year I no longer had a need for a daily personal assistant. Because of this, my support email was no longer being answered as I wasn’t actively selling any of my products. Now that I’m in gear to re-open portions of my business I’m going through the old support email accounts and am literally shocked and a bit peeved.
It appears there are tons of emails that were never answered for some reason. And this doesn’t sit right with me. If you’ve ever emailed and didn’t receive a response from myself or someone on my team I sincerely apologize. It’s not acceptable in my mind to just ignore pressing matters or emails that have a legitimate question, request or complaint.
I’ve just plowed through about 500 emails and realized we missed a lot. That sucks. I have about 500 more to go through to get caught up, but I will get it sorted out. Many of these emails are over a year old and this really bums me out. I’ve probably lost some really good customers because of this. To keep things in proper perspective, of the 1000 emails in the account, probably only 50 of them are from people with real questions or requests. Most of the others are marketing pitches, or promotional emails. Those are different and I don’t care much about those.
So I just wanted to say I’m sorry if anyone has ever emailed us and got nothing in return. That is not the way I like my business to run and it’s not acceptable. Period.
