Yesterday I signed up for a About.me page.

About.me aggregates a lot of your social media profiles so people can find your stuff all in one place. Many people seem to use it as a resume of sorts. I have a feeling this site is going to get very popular in the near future so I wanted to point it out to you so you could reserve your name before someone else swipes it.

Also, I think you should register your name and brand at all the other social media sites as well. It may not seem like the most important thing for you to be doing right now, but trust me. Spend a few moments to make sure you register your names and brands. You’ll thank me later.

In this quick video below, I show my About.me page and offer a couple tips when signing up…

  1. Awesome dude sites like this are overlooked just like Buzz people under estimate the power that buzz potentially has. Even though I feed mine mostly with my pingFM I am using it. I’m just saying that because from testing FaceBook with auto posts against manual posts. The manual posts on your business pages show up in the searches where as auto don’t. This is a Google grading thing, and I like it. People that put forth the extra effort are going to be the winners. Just one of many tips we have!
    Thanks

    1. You referring to Google Buzz or Yahoo Buzz? I think Yahoo Buzz just announced they are discontinuing the service. I use Google Buzz occasionally but often forget about it.

  2. Check this out,

I normally recommend people register their domain names as an email name like “this-is-my-site.com @ gmail.com” or “this-is-my-site.com @ hotmail.com” the benefit is you get free net property.

This action stops some of the Shang-hi marketing thief’s from using your brand in conjunction Google, Bing, Yahoo, Twitter and Facebook and so on.

I have seen people spends a ton of cash on advertising only to have smart marketers use blogs that seem like the real site steal search engine business from the real site.

I tell my clients to setup accounts at Gmail, Yahoo, MSN, Twitter ,Youtube and of course Facebook. My list of free net properties goes on an on. The bottom line is, “you can register your name” and “or brand” or someone else will.

When you create the properties they become nothing more than an extensions and assets to your current property holdings. By registering the name you will control the name not some Shang-hi marketing thief.

Jmo, I wrote most of this and then I finished the vid you are so right on the money about registering “your name” or even more so “your brand“.

I went to the about.me site and I set my profile up in under 3 minutes. That was way to easy. More free property.

  3. I beat ya there, Jason.
I signed up a month ago. They just sent me the link for my name. I’m still working on it now. It is awesome. Can’t wait to put my background up for it and links.

  4. A MAJOR thanks on this tip Jason, I can see some incredible potential here in so many ways.

And at the perfect time, when we are soaked in here in So Cal, at least in Santa Barbara, how’s it down south?
