Every other month it seems that a software program or internet marketing product comes out and a slough of affiliates and product owners instantly start saying a particular phrase that I think is utter nonsense.
That phrase is “This product is a game changer”.
I’m calling bullshit. In fact, I’m calling horse shit. It smells a wee bit better.
I don’t think any product or service is really a game changer. The game is still the same. Get people to visit your page, help them out and sell them stuff. Regardless of what tools you are using in your business, you still have to convince people to buy your stuff. However, people seem to want to skip this step or omit it entirely.
People are always trying to stay ahead of everyone else in this marketing game, but I’m hear to tell you that in the time I’ve been online, it’s damn near the same game as when I started. Not much has really changed. Sure, Google Adwords is harder and more expensive, search engines change their algorythyms, and more competition enters the arena everyday but we are all essentially doing the same stuff we did 5 years ago. We drive traffic and then we sell stuff.
All the gadgets and software in the world aren’t going to do jack shit for you if you don’t learn how to sell stuff. Sure, they may make the process a bit easier, but it definitely doesn’t change the game. I believe people will be much better suited if they’d quit looking for new inventions and and secrets and just learn how to effectively sell products they morally believe in.
Quit trying to game everything. And quit thinking that some software or course is going to be the answer to your prayers because the only thing that is going to make you rich is you getting off your ass and making offers.
How many order buttons do you have online? What I mean by that is, how many places are on the internet where I can pay you money right now for a product or service?
I ask this question to people all the time. The ones struggling online usually stall for an answer and come up with excuses about why they don’t have any order buttons up at the present moment. Excuses won’t pay the electric bill. Driving traffic and making offers can.
I promise you that if you quit trying to change the game, or looking to others who claim they are changing the game you’ll have a much better shot of making a decent income online. The game isn’t complicated. It’s simply providing value to others in need. That’s it. It’s never going to change.
When you shift your focus from “How can I make this money” to… “How can I help that person solve their problem” you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
Sadly, the majority of marketers will never get this. It’s all about me, me, me, me. How can I get this? How can I make that? How can get so and so to JV with me? All the while they neglect the simple game in front of their face that is pretty easy to win. Serving people. Try it some time. It works.

In a word: Amen.
great post JM The game NEVER changes…..
Well Said! I agree, there are some great products out there, but the game doesn’t change just because of the products.
I think anyone who thinks just buying one product is going to instantly give them a 6,7,8 figure business overnight is foolish, those who are gonna build real solid (profitable) businesses will do so with or without these game changing tools.

Jason,
Your point, at the end of your rant, is the most important part of what you said. It’s helping people and providing value that should be your focus, not making money.
Making money comes as a result of providing value.
By the way, don’t take this as some kind of woo-woo anti-capitalist thinking. On the contrary, it’s pure capitalism.
Any business that doesn’t provide value won’t be in business for very long.

Great post J, glad to see others on the soap box. In a nutshell, Different day same shit!
I hear ya man… I try to break this down even in the SEO game. Things have changed over the years but bottom line it always boils down to this: Content Activity and Links… Tools and tricks may change, but the basics remain the same. (oooh I ryhmed, kinda)
I feel the need to put your statement on a t-shirt or work into a marketing campaign with this generic logo. 🙂

DUDE… You’re so right! This blog post is a game changer!
You are right Mo.I’m guilty of not learning how to sell, push traffic
or making offers. The only thing I do is create value for musicians.
Gotta get my ass outta my head! I can admit to all of that.
Get my ass going and just friggin’ sell and create value.

You’re an artist bro, not a marketer. You got a tough road ahead. It’s a tough mindset to change but I wish you the best. Sometimes it’s better to just remain the artist and have a business partner who is all about the bucks.
Hi
Great post, that’s what I like about you, you just say it how it is!
You are right, it is still the same game, just more people doing it nowadays but still only a few that get it.
